A trip to Keikarou

20150922-02

On September 22nd, Salwa and I went to Keikarou. After my first trip (during which I didn’t make it for lunch but managed to get in for dinner), I had always tried to arrive about half an hour before the restaurant opened. I only managed to go twice since then (in January and November 2012), and had been in the first batch of customers to be let in both times. Because of that, we thought it was safe to arrive around the same time again, especially since a lot of fans were flocking to Miyagi, and sometime in 2013 Keikarou had stopped displaying gifts from fans. Unfortunately, we underestimated the power of Silver Week. By the time we arrived, the queue was already very long, and we ended up in the line for over an hour under the very hot sun.

Aiba’s mother came out several times while we were in the queue, handing out menus and talking to customers, and saying stuff like, “are you okay?” and “sorry about the wait.” One of the staff came to us and tried talking in English; she seemed to be struggling a bit, so Salwa told her that Japanese was fine. She gave us the Japanese menu and talked to us in Japanese after that, but when we were seated, she talked to us in English again. We figured that she probably wanted to practise, so we started talking to her in English as well. (more…)

Long Overdue Trip Post! Day 12: Keikarou

The plan for Monday (23rd January) was a visit to Keikarou!

Salwa and I met at Makuhari-Hongo Station at around 10am (the plan was to meet at 9am, but she was late due to taking the wrong train) – I was coming from Asakusa while Salwa was only just coming back from her host family’s place, if I remember it right. Anyway, we wanted to go early because the last time I went with Shida, we arrived at 11am and lined up all noon, just to be told that we had to come back for dinner ^^;

This time the crowd wasn’t so bad when we arrived, though, and we ended up being among the first to be let in once they opened for lunch.

I ordered the gyoza, and Salwa ordered an omelette and rice, so that we could share. We also ordered the goma-dango because Steph recommended it when I told her we’re going to Keikarou. Once we were done with our orders, we (and everyone at the other tables) started taking photos of everything we could, haha.

Day 3: Keikarou

Since we left a lot later than we planned, the line to have lunch at Keikarou was already really long by the time we arrived. It was quite easy to find, though!

We lined up for about a couple of hours when a waitress announced that they were closing for lunch. (T_T) So we left our names for dinner and bought food at a combini.

We went walking around the area since we had about 2 hours before we had to go back. I ended up buying a copy of Family Walker (Nov issue) since Sho’s on the cover.
