Arashi no Shukudai-kun #044

Aired On: August 6th, 2007

In this episode, Arashi’s guest is comedian Jinnai Tomonari, who had recently got married to model/actress Fujiwara Norika (this was in 2007! They eventually divorced in 2009.) Anyway, in the beginning he was talking about his wedding reception.

The Shukudai-kun rewatch continues! Episode 43’s guest is Eikura Nana! (Sorry about all the exclamation marks, but I really am feeling a bit hyped up right now XD) I’m only just continuing to watch 99.9% this year and I guess my first thought was, how amazing it is that she doesn’t look that different at all after all these years. Aired On: July 23rd, 2007

The guests for this episode are comedians Nadagi and Tomochika – and they started the episode with one of their skits as Dylan and Catherine. I’m still not that into Japanese comedy, but this one did make me laugh a little.

Their homework for the audience was to submit delicious/various kinds of soup, and the first entry is a Chinese soup served in a bowl made of papaya. (more…)

ans-41The guest for this episode is Ueto Aya, so I was looking forward to the rewatch. She had requested Arashi to report on dishes made from eggs, which was the homework given to the audience. The first dish was egg chips – sliced boiled eggs fried in salad oil. Ueto Aya said that it tasted like fried eggs, while Ohno didn’t like it, saying that it ought to be saltier. Next, Aiba introduced coffee with egg yolk (instead of milk). This, they seemed to like – it tasted just like milk coffee, according to Ueto Aya, and Jun said it was refreshing. The third dish was boiled eggs served in different colours. They looked cute, but in the end they’re just boiled eggs. The fourth dish was soumen noodles, but dipped in raw egg instead of the usual broth. Everyone agreed that this tasted bad, until they added some of the broth to the egg, improving the taste. ans-40The guests for this episode are Tutorial, the comedy duo Tokui Yoshimi and Fukuda Mitsunori. Generally speaking, I don’t really get Japanese comedy acts, although I tend to enjoy seeing comedians on variety TV. When Tokui and Fukuda came on this episode, they had recently won the M-1 Grand Prix, which is an annual Manzai (traditional stand-up comedy style with a “tsukkomi” and “boke”) competition broadcasted on TV. Tokui-san is a fan of sweets, and had requested that Arashi introduce interesting gourmet sweets to them.

Arashi came up with two dishes – the first is chocolate fondue, which made Tokui very happy, and pleased Fukuda even though he didn’t like sweets. The next is another kind of gourmet chocolate from Del Rey in Omotesando Hills, which seemed to amaze everyone. I wonder how much it costs… (more…)

Aired On: July 3nd, 2007Have I mentioned yet that I love the song that plays on Shukudai-kun? The Pipette’s “Your Kisses Are Wasted On Me”. Yup. I love it. Anyway, episode 39’s guests are Kikukawa Rei and Takabe Ai, who came to promote “Courage of the Wind” which Takabe Ai appeared in. Their homework for the audience was to find “beauty food” from around the world.

The first item brought in was from Iran, made with chicken, walnuts and pomegranate seeds. I guess it looks like normal everyday gravy to me, because it’s similar to stuff we eat here. Both guests said it was sweet, while Aiba claimed that it encapsulates the “taste of Asia”. Ohno just said it was really good. The next dish, from Brazil, isn’t really something I’d like to try at all, containing lots of meat, including pig’s ears and feet. The third dish is absolutely familiar – bak kut teh! Apparently from Singapore *rolls eyes*.  Why is it that everything that belongs to so many SEA countries end up being solely credited to Singapore? Anyway, I dislike bak kut teh so yes, again, not something I’d like to eat.

After the food was the “image” section, during which Aiba and Takabe Ai attempt to eat 2kg worth of curry. Kikukawa Rei talked about her dance lessons, but they kept getting interrupted by Aiba and Takabe Ai who were still eating.

In the third part, they received homework from the audience. The letter that was picked asked how to confess to someone, so MatsuJun, Takabe Ai, and Kikukawa Rei had to do their five steps method from meeting to the final confession. As usual, this segment is good because of tsundere!Jun (^_^). Even his first step states that he’d give his contact number to the girl, but wouldn’t ask for hers. In the end, he made it that the girl already had a boyfriend, but he confessed anyway.

Aired On: June 25th, 2007Aaand today, as I continue experimenting on using Weebly as a replacement for Blogger, I continue my Shukudai-kun project! It’s a good time to continue, really, since I haven’t been watching Arashi in awhile, and I need a dose of them in my life. Their shows are now mostly uploaded on Mega, which I can’t use, so I haven’t been stalking for new episodes as I used to. I can no longer watch live streaming, either – the links I used to use no longer work (;_;). That, plus the fact that majority of my friends are now off the fandom, meant that I didn’t have much to keep me in it. I still miss watching their shows, though!

The guests this episode is the comedy duo Penalty, consisting of Hide and Wakky.  When they came out of the box, they noticed that the set was devoid of the usual sofas. Sho explained that because they were known for their physical strength, they thought they’d use the show to highlight that XD. (Does this mean Baka Undokai? Yaaay!!)

Aired On: June 18th, 2007Continuing my re-watch! At the gathering I was transferring some of my Mago Mago files to Fatin’s pendrive, and I thought of how there are a lot of episodes I’ve yet to watch, which made me think, I should start on a Mago Mago watching project!, which reminded me that I have yet to continue myShukudai-kun re-watch. ^^; So, continuing, after so long.

The guest this episode is ManaKana, or Mikura Mana and Kana, twin singer/actresses. Their homework to the guests was to investigate rare and delicious cuisine from Okinawa. The first item introduced was “gouya (bitter gourd) burger”, which they thought was delicious but didn’t really have much of a bitter gourd flavour. Aiba said it tasted like shisa (the lion/dog decoration, I think from Okinawan mythology?), and ended up eating half of the burger meant for all of Arashi, before Jun reminded him not to finish it. He gave Jun his half-finished burger in response, lol.

I just reminded myself that I haven’t continued my Shukudai-kun re-watch, again. This episode’s guests are the comedy duo Ungirl. Their food request was for delicious and unusual tsukemen. They said it’s because they have it all the time, and they wanted to try other kinds. They got sidetracked, though, because they mentioned that they were from Hiroshima and Yamane ended up doing impressions of baseball players ^^;

When the tsukemen started coming out, Arashi and Ogura-san started tasting it without asking the guests, haha. Then they were going on, saying, “on to the next” before finally relenting and letting Yamane and Tanaka taste the tsukemen. The second dish was from Shizuoka, black tsukemen (in squid ink). Again, Arashi ate without giving any to the guests. Yamane kept saying it tasted like pasta XD The following dish was Aiba’s specially made tsukemen, using “the world’s three greatest flavours” – truffle, caviar, and foie gras. Doesn’t sound good to me (>_>) Unsurprisingly, they let the guests taste this one first XDD Jun had a taste and called Aiba an idiot. But Aiba has a back up plan, apparently – tsukemen that he was sure they’d like, made out of shaved ice topping. Ogura-san commented that it looked good, which was treated with suspicion that he’d gone weird since he started hosting Shukudai-kun with Arashi. But Tanaka had some and really like it.

For the image shukudai, the first entry said that Ungirl spent time worrying that they used to be “disgusting but cute”, but were now just “disgusting”. They admitted that it was true, and Tanaka mentioned that he was trying to increase his skills so he was trying to remember all the capitals to the countries in the United Nations. In order to challenge him, Arashi brought out “Pon-chan”, one of their staff who’s apparently awesome at geography. If Tanaka couldn’t beat Pon-chan at guessing the capitals, then he would have to take it (knowledge of the world’s capitals) out of his talent profile. Both of them were really cool, but Tanaka lost when he couldn’t remember Reykjavik (Iceland’s capital).

Finally Arashi had Ungirl take on the challenge of performing their skits while blindfolded and wearing headphones. They were okay at first but soon fell completely out of sync, which actually made their act a lot funnier to me.

OMG, I just realised that the last time I did my Shukudai-kun re-watch was in February last year. Since I still kept to my promise of not watching Shukudai-kun out of sequence until I’m done, this means that I haven’t actually watched Shukudai-kun since then! (*_*) So I think it’s about time I continue (^^;;
The guest for episode #35 is singer/actress Katase Nana. She came to promote her film Kimi ni Shika Kikoenai, which is about a couple who could communicate telepathically. Since it’s a slow love story, the conversation started along that theme, but as usual, the subject soon turned into food – as her homework for the audience is to find delicious and unusual yam dishes.
Ans-035-01
Sho-kun wanted to know what slow love meant, and Aiba helped ^^;
