Arashi ni Shiyagare #003

Aired On: May 8th, 2010

This episode, like the last two, begins with Arashi trying to figure out who their aniki guest is. Sho mentioned that a staff advised him to sleep early the day before, so he assumed it was someone who’d make them move a lot. So perhaps an athlete?

Jun added that that sounded right, because his stylist kept asking if his pants were too stiff, and if he should change (if he couldn’t move easily in them.) Nino encountered the same thing, and Ohno, so they wondered if it would be an athlete after all!

The guest turned out to be Nakamura Shido, kabuki actor. He brought them taiyaki as souvenirs, which they said were soft and delicious. During the gossip segment, Shido-san admitted to going to Don Quijote (in Kannana Hounan-cho) a lot at night. He even took pictures and talked to fans if any tried to talk to him.

He asked Arashi what they would usually do after concerts, as after standing before 50,000 people it must get really lonely once you’re alone. MatsuJun said something about feeling lonely when he’s doing laundry after concerts, and thinking that he would have to work hard to make sure he can do more in the future, or something like that. Nino said he’d be thinking like that when scrubbing the bath!
As for what Shido-san was teaching them, it was: “how to spend a classy day off!” First, he taught them to make their own ramen (he liked to cook.) This part was MC-ed by the duo Oriental Radio who were a lot more fun than the previous set guests to me. The second clause was to eat sweets after ramen. They ate a kind of shell pie with sweet fillings; like the taiyaki, it looked so yummy I thought of looking something similar after work next week.
Before the last clause, the show moved to the Encounter the Unknown segment, in which Aiba met photojournalist Watanabe Yoichi. He taught Aiba three rules to taking good photos of people, and sent Aiba to take a photo of Akebono Taro, former sumo wrestler. The staff had put Akebono-san in a condition made to irritate him – his green room’s temperature was too warm, his TV didn’t work, his stool was too small, and he was made to wait 4 hours – so that by the time Aiba went to see him he was extra-angry. But Aiba was Aiba, and he managed to make Akebono-san smile for a bit, and even took a decent picture of it. He got 99 points for his work!
Back to the third clause of a classy day off, Shido-san had brought wrestling masks for Arashi to wear, and suggested that as celebs they should try wearing masks when they went out in private. The only bad point (according to him) was that even taxis wouldn’t stop for a masked man!
This was a really fun episode, and one of the ones I remembered so well from when it was aired – I didn’t stream variety shows back then, but I remembered the many LJ posts talking about this episode, the way so many fans loved the ramen bits in particular.
