Arashi ni Shiyagare #002

Aired On: May 1st, 2010

They started the show explaining that they had no idea what would be happening, and talked about how in the last episode they learned the Cream Stew rules to MC-ing and whether they should be trying to use what they’ve learned. MatsuJun commented that with Cream Stew, it was alright for them to say things that might’ve been inappropriate with other people, but he had the feeling that their guest that episode was a big-name guest. Ohno commented that (if that were the case) he should’ve peed before filming XD

Their guest turned out to be Shimura Ken, who Aiba worked with in Tensai! Shimura Doubutsu-en. Shimura-san really is a big-name, although I think I didn’t realise how much the first time I saw this back in 2010. Aiba was so happy to see Shimura-san, and asked if it was really okay to ask about his past in the show. Shimura said yes, and brought out their souvenirs – a stomach band which was one of the merch from the stage play he was in as Bakatono.

In the gossip corner, Shimura-san denied that he had given up on getting married, and said that he would like to, as he would like to have children. He said that he wouldn’t like his kids (if he had any) to get into entertainment. When he was a kid, his family life was gloomy (pretty serious), and yet everyone would laugh at comedy shows together, so it made him admire comedy and want to be a comedian. He also shared about his time as part of a comedian duo and group. One of the rumours about him was that he spent 1/3 of his waking hours in Roppongi, which he denied – he went a lot, but not that much! Aiba talked about how Shimura-san taught him about wine, and how the first time they went drinking together, Aiba got drunk and ended up waking up to see himself lying down with his head on Shimura-san’s lap.

In this episode, all of Arashi learned to be Bakatono! The actual theme was to learn how to create a character, and in the first part, they learned to convey a character via movements. He showed them two characters and how to act them – an old lady, and a drunk man. It was really interesting how he did it and how through a few specific movements/words he could convey the characters so well. It was hilarious when Arashi tried to do the same skits.

For the second part, he taught them how to do the Bakatono make-up. He showed them how he did his make-up, and had them line up and try it themselves. Aiba messed up a bit around his eyebrows and his make-up looked funny. All of them looked different despite following the same instructions, though!

His third clause was to use rhythm to complete the character. Shimura-san showed them basic Bakatono moods and how through certain expressions/movements he could convey what Bakatono was feeling. For example, when Bakatono got angry, the same sound would be played, and he would make the same expression. Shimura-san also showed the expression and dance Bakatono did when he was happy, and how it corresponded to the music that would be played. They all did the “ureshii~na!” (I’m so happy!) part together at the end.

After Shimura-san left, Arashi talked a bit about how their make-up ended up like, and how the result was different for all of them. (Aiba’s was messy and had a unibrow, and Sho’s eyebrows were painted too high.) It was a fun episode!
